"Day Away" Respite Program
If you or someone you love is living with a life threatening illness, and is tired of being stuck at home, then enjoy a day away at Hospice’s Day Respite Program.
A “Day Away” is…
- A weekly retreat away from the ordinary
- An opportunity to participate in discussions and group activities that promote fun, laughter and well being
- Learning about and taking part in a variety of complementary therapies including therapeutic touch, horticulture, art and music
The program is designed to benefit both the individual who is living with a life threatening illness, and their caregivers. While clients attend the program, caregivers are encouraged to take time for themselves.
As part of the Day Away program, Hospice offers free Therapeutic Touch sessions to its participants. Therapeutic Touch is a complementary therapy that utilizes near touch or light touch. In palliative care, Therapeutic Touch helps to reduce anxiety and promotes relaxation.
When a client is no longer able to attend our in-house Day Away program, a Therapeutic Touch Volunteer can be sent to the client’s home to continue with Therapeutic Touch treatments.
