The Absent Friends Film Series

Hospice of Waterloo Region introduces a film series challenging us to join family, friends and neighbours in talking about the often taboo topics of death, dying and grief.

St. Jerome’s University Academic Centre

Hospice of Waterloo Region and St. Jerome’s University invite you to join staff, students and volunteers in a screening of the charming and meaningful animated Disney film, Coco.

Immediately following the movie, students of St. Jerome’s “Philosphy of End of Life Care” will facilitate discussion as we begin to open up the conversation about death, dying and grief.

REGISTRATION – There is limited seating for this introductory evening as we will be joining students in their classroom. Please register in advance and use the ticket order form to confirm you participation in this Thursday evening event.

Following on the heals of our introductory film night , we are expanding our Absent Friends Film Series to include the screening and discussion of 4 films as part of a series that will begin January 31st running each month (7-9:30pm ) with the final screening on April 24, 2020

The Friday evening film series will take place at the St. Jerome’s University Academic Centre in the 300-seat Vanstone Lecture Hall (SJ2 2002)with facilitated discussion to follow immediately after the screening., We look forward to joining with you in this conversation.

Tickets for the film series are complimentary, but please use the ticket order form to confirm your participation in the film night(s) of your choice.

Starring Sally Field, this funny & delightful film captures the story of four siblings returning home to care for their dying

Farewell – Friday February 28, 2020 -7-9:30pm

Based on the director’s own life experiences, Farewell mixes comedy and drama to explore the realities of family dynamics, cultural difference and terminal illness.

The Fault in Our Stars – Friday March 27, 2020 7-9:30 pm LOCATION CHANGE to BE CONFIRMED

Based on the New York Times best selling book by John Green, this movie follows two adolescents living with cancer who fall in love.

The Savages – Friday April 24, 2020 7-9:30 pm

Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney, this film follows two adult children as they struggle to care for their estranged father who has dementia.
