“Waking Ned Devine” is a 1998 comedy film set in Ireland  and follows the antics of two best friends, Jackie (Ian Bannen) and Michael (David Kelly) as they and their village of 52 people plot to discover the identify of the winner of the Irish National Lottery.

ABOUT THE FILM

Roger Ebert describes this film as “another of those delightful village comedies that seems to spin out of the British Isles annually.” In his review, he states “most of the time we’re smiling more than laughing; we recognize the human nature involved in ‘Waking Ned Devine,’ and we like the way the writer/director throws up obstacles just to have fun leaping over them.”

Rotten Tomatoes gave this movie a “Certified Fresh” rating, and describes it as a “heartwarming comedy with a delightfully light touch, finding feel-good humor in some unexpected — and unexpectedly effective — places”.

“Waking Ned Devine” has been nominated and won several awards.
